The day was HOT. I'm talking about that Midwestern steamy, humid, HOT. If you've been here in the summer or live here, you know what I mean. We had a 112 or so heat index, and an outdoor park wedding, that had a start time of 4:30pm...yeah, about the hottest part of the day. "It wasn't supposed to be this hot!" John said to me just before the ceremony.
But despite the heat, the wedding was absolutely beautiful and definitely memorable. The flower girl THREW - not tossed, but threw - I'm talking Wainwright against the Brewers, here - the rose petals down the aisle, at a few guests no less. Her sassy entrance lightened the mood after a tense few moments of technical issues with the music, and had everyone ready for Melanie's grand procession.
She was escorted by her mom and dad, which I always think is very sweet. Her dress was an elegant, flowing ball gown with folds and flowing waves of fabric in the full skirt, bedazzled with sequins and beading to add shimmer along the bodice and in places along the skirt. I about fainted when I saw the flower hair piece she wore - LOVED it! I love anything a little vintage, and I especially love feathers - the hairpiece she wore had a little of both.
John's mom read Corinthians 13 for those assembled in the hot August evening to watch John and Melanie's ceremony. She sounded hopefully and happy, and with the Corinthians verse, it was very moving.
Seeing John and Melanie together, you can tell why they fell in love. Both of them are light hearted, a little silly, very down to earth and simply, just wonderful people. Melanie's adorable smile can light up a whole room!
I gotta mention Melanie's bouquet. I took a lot of pictures of it because I LOVED it. Magenta Gerberas and roses, white peonies, white tulips and these little green bud things. The mix was beautiful and MarryMe Flowers did a wonderful job.
The reception was fun and oh - the cake! Royal Blue Fondant! Blue is my favorite color and when I walked in I about squealed in joy. So cool!
John's mom seemed to really be having a blast at the reception, and it was so awesome to see that. Can I guess that she loves to dance? :)
Congratulations John and Melanie! Many blessings for a long, happy life together!
