The Slideshow Predicament

Something I've considered quite heavily lately - The Slideshow.

I have a lot to say about slideshows, and I'm not talking basic boring Powerpoint stuff, here... I'm talking those sweet, gorgeous, cinema-quality Movie-Slideshow hybrids. Like this! (these are all my images, I grabbed a random 6 or 7)

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

I love them. I love them because of one defining element: Music.

Music is an incredibly powerful thing. Music can create, alter and define perception. And so, music set to something as potent as pictures, well... that is a beautiful, POWERFUL combination.

Because I recognize this power, I'm really interested in using slideshows to enhance what I already do. But, being a single-shooter (as in, not being a hubby-wife team, or having an assistant or second photographer with me ever), I couldn't exactly build a slideshow during a reception and then present it in the same night, like some other photographers do. While I think that is an amazing idea, and I'd love to do it, I'd also be freaking out over all the photo ops I was missing while I was putting a slideshow together. And I'm pretty sure the Bride and Groom might mind as well - even if I did try to get it done while everyone was eating.

So. Here's my predicament. HOW can I use this element to enhance my business? The reception slideshow seems to be the best idea, because all the guests present can view the wedding photos. I don't know how many guests are actually visiting my gallery site once the editing is finished, even though I've been setting up the galleries early and passing out little business cards with links on them.

As of yet, I've not decided how it would be most beneficial to use this feature. I'm considering using it here on my blog mostly, and providing Brides with links so they can post their slideshow to their Facebook page or send it out in an email. Otherwise, I've not come up with a better idea.

But I do so LOVE those slideshows.
