Saturday was definitely balmier than it's predecessor, pregnant with humidity and the impending storms. I had called Missy on my way to Christa's; she was getting ready to head to the reception site. I drove an hour down highway 44 with my hair locked in hot rollers, the radio blaring classic rock. Led Zeppelin was on as I was pulling in to Christa's driveway.
I sat on her kitchen floor in front of the full-length mirror in her 'hair salon', teasing sections of my hair into puff balls that would provide the height for my victory rolls. I wasn't sure I remembered how to do it right, and it turns out that I was correct - I did, indeed, do them wrong. Sort of. They were close enough for my satisfaction in the limited time I was working in, though, so that was that. Mostly true victory rolls it was.
I quickly curled the back of Christa's hair when she finished pinning Lori's darling little curls into place, then hopped in my car and got back on 44. I got off on the wrong exit first - of course - had to flip a U-turn and get back on the highway and go one further.
When I finally arrived, I noted that Missy looked happy but exhausted. "Two days?" she said to me, "what was I thinking?" She was smiling, though, and I knew that she was so happy to be right where she was, even if she was a little tired and ready for the hubbub to be over with so she could finally relax.
There wasn't a ceremony as had originally been planned, but that was ok too. All Missy's girls showed up looking like stellar Pin-Up models and Clyde's guys all looked rockabilly/casual chic in their tuxedo T's, jeans and Converse.
The details - records, tissue paper topiaries, little flower and button details in red, white and black - the theme colors - were so darling. The entire event came together so well and I was so thrilled for Missy and Clyde to really be having a wedding that represented their personalities and really celebrated them as a couple. It was rad. And I am so thrilled to have been a part of it.
Missy and Clyde - love you guys. Many blessings. Sushi soon!
