Missy and Clyde's Wedding - Day 1

It was a sunny, warm day in late summer, almost autumn. There was a slight breeze, just enough to rouse the leaves into a delicate dance and stir the hair.

The courtroom was full of rich, warm wood and plentiful, easy smiles. Missy and Clyde each repeated their vows, then kissed without being prompted. They came up for air and kissed again.

Clyde sat at the head of the table during lunch; Italian food, set in an old St. Louis riverfront mansion. Missy sat on his right, sharing sweet smiles, conversation, and laughter.

Afterward, Clyde was even a trooper during the wedding portraits. Clyde really doesn't like having his picture taken, but he was polite and generous, because he knows that Missy really loves pictures. I secretly think he had a good time anyway - the adorable looks and sweet kisses he exchanged with Missy said everything that needed to be said.

It was so wonderful to see Missy so happy. I cannot explain how my heart simply sang with joy for one of my closest, bestest friends - she had found her soulmate, her home. And here they were, the two of them, pledging to each other to be each other's witness for the rest of their shared lives.

Weddings are simply amazing. I am moved at every wedding by the sentiment and emotion shared with the congregation of guests - sometimes very personal, private details about the Bride and Groom's love affair. But even if the ceremony is simple, as was yesterday's, the gesture is the same - to pronounce to the world what their hearts already feel, that they are committed to only each other, love each other more than anyone else in the world, and promise to put each other first in their lives, for the rest of their lives.

I am honored to see this miracle happen time and time again, every month. But I can tell you it never really hits home as hard as when you're close to the two people making the proclamation.

Missy and Clyde, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of these two very special days. I am so honored, and so thrilled for you both. Congratulations! I love you guys.
